Gone Home

2013

You arrive home after a year abroad. You expect your family to greet you, but the house is empty. Something is not right. Where is everyone? And what's happened here?

In Gone Home the player plays as Katie, a young woman who has returned home after a long trip to Europe, as she refamiliarizes herself with her family's home and looks for her sister Sam. During the gameplay, Sam is revealed through her notes to be queer and the narrative tells if her (and the inherently universal) experience.

- Players become fully immersed in a first person narrative of a characters as they explore their queer perspective – Meeting the Queer You criteria.

- Played in first person, the mise-en-scène is designed to indicate queerness or reference in-jokes about LGBT culture - such as references to the musical genres 'Riot grrrl' and 'Queercore'.

- As a "walking simulator" the gameplay revolves around space and how a young queer person might navigate such domesticity, politics of secrecy and confessions in a familial space.

- Created by the indie company Fullbright, a team that consists of LGBT members.
